Michter's Distillery LLC (independent)
Independent, privately held distillery revived by Joseph J. Magliocco, who purchased the Michter's trademark in the 1990s through his family's Chatham Imports company for just $245. The brand traces its heritage to 1753 when John Shenk began distilling in Schaefferstown, Pennsylvania. Under Magliocco's stewardship, Michter's moved production to Kentucky and built a state-of-the-art production distillery in Shively (Louisville) and opened the Fort Nelson visitor distillery on Louisville's Whiskey Row. Known for entering barrels at one of the lowest proofs in the industry (103 proof) and toasting barrels before charring.
